Leaps and Bounds

8/26/2019

This morning we installed multiple pieces by NSG Fellow Daniel Glanz at the new Riverdale Animal Shelter in Adams County, Colorado

“Leaps and Bounds” at the entry. And “Sweet Dreams” with “Grassland Trio” in the nearby calming garden.

We hope you’ll get a chance to enjoy these placements soon. For now the shelter recommends adopting online as construction finishes up, and as we all await a vaccine for in-person adoptions.

11/3/2019: The last several months have been filled with sculpting and casting for this project. #process.

Picture
6/20/2019:
The Adam's County Arts Committee has approved our proposal for the second area for art at the new Riverdale Animal Shelter. Two sculptures by
Daniel Glanz and the National Sculptors' Guild will be placed in the calming garden.

In this quieter placement we have a mouse curled up next to a sleeping cat in this unlikely pairing as they take a break from the ‘race’. The bronze is placed on a large sandstone natural bench, inviting visitors to sit next to Sweet Dreams for a moment of respite.

Finally, Grassland Trio again combines stainless steel with bronze, depicting a rabbit, lizard and bird united by tall grasses representing the natural beauty of the area, and a few of the other (maybe lesser known) pets that the shelter assists.

Daniel Glanz and the National Sculptors' Guild are happy to announce our design for Adams County's new Riverdale Animal Shelter was accepted and will be realized in the coming year. We will post updates here as the sculpture evolves. Energetic and enthusiastically welcoming, this piece creates an immediate connection for the public with the shelter; becoming an iconic entrance piece for the Riverdale Animal Shelter. A dog leaps in the air to catch a frisbee. Across the entry one sees the young child that threw the frisbee. In-between, a cat sitting on the provided bench has it’s paw up in a futile attempt to intercept. The dog and cat will include sculpted details specific to Riverdale, including the names “River” and “Dale” inscribed on collars – reinforcing proper care of pets. The frisbee may include the Riverdale logo. The sculptures will be cast in bronze and scaled at life-size, the frisbee and abstract element that the dog attaches to will be fabricated stainless steel. Patina on the bronze will be warm-browns. The breeds of the cat and dog will be nondescript for universal appeal. The child will be sculpted gender neutral and racially ambiguous for optimum inclusiveness of all visitors to the Riverdale Animal Shelter. Utilizing the existing bench for the cat invites visitors to sit next to the sculpture and be part of the composition. The artwork provides multiple photo opportunities to capture happy adoption moments. The term 'Leaps and Bounds' is used to emphasize that someone or something is improving or increasing quickly and greatly... this absolutely rings true for the animals that are sheltered and adopted here. The sculpture demonstrates the health and vitality that comes from our connection with our pets. It also sets the tone for visitors to the shelter; as one enters the facility; they know this to be a place where animals thrive.Leaps & Bounds design for the Adams County Riverdale Animal Shelter

Little Rock Zoo Lion Pride

"Lion Pride" by Darrell Davis and the National Sculptors' Guild  is installed at the roundabout as you enter the Little Rock Zoo. NSG Director John Kinkade made multiple trips to Little Rock to pick out the natural stone that is strategically placed to create the levels needed to match the artist's initial composition. The cast aluminum really sets off against the warm colors in the stone. And the strong glance of the lions is intense. We love how it turned out and hope you can make a trip to see in person. #PublicArt NSG-505

Update 11/1/18: Yes, that’s a lioness in the gallery!

We have National Sculptors' Guild Fellow Darrell Davis’ monumental sculpture here temporarily as we wait for the site and the other two pieces to be cast. We didn’t have a stone to anchor her on in the NSG sculpture garden, so, here she is visiting Columbine Gallery

Part of our public art projects, Davis’ “Lion Pride” will be installed in the roundabout as you enter the Little Rock Zoo soon. We love this first lion. She’s a big beauty!

Herb Mignery has been making room for a lion. He recently moved out of a spacious studio thinking he wasn't going to sculpt monuments anymore - but then we called saying - we need a life-sized lion. Luckily he had room in his garage. The lion is based on a maquette Herb sculpted a few years ago. When alumni Bill McLagan came into the gallery, he knew that was the piece to enlarge for The College of New Jersey's campus. Stay tuned to see updates and installation images... TCNJ Donor Bill McLagan with Artist Herb Mignery reviewing the progress on the sculpted clay.

Update 12/07/2017: Tim Cherry has finished Roundbottomus Hippopotamus in a beautiful Pat Kipper patina. The first in the edition was commissioned through the National Sculptors' Guild for the City of Little Rock, Arkansas and will be installed in the spring once the site is ready. The sculpture is designed to be played on and around, placed directly on the ground, bands of different colors of concrete will surround the bronze to give the sense of rings of water. The donor has named her "Annaba" after the modern city built over the ruins of Hippo Regius in Algeria, Africa where their father spent time in the 1940s.

More whimsical artwork added to Arkansas Children's Hospital

11/9/2016

We've just finished installing two more Tim Cherry bronze sculptures at the Arkansas Children's Hospital. Tim's Whole Hog and Bear Ball join over two dozen sculptures by National Sculptors' Guild members Mark Leichliter, Jane DeDecker, Clay Enoch, Herb Mignery, Don Rambadt and more by Tim Cherry.

Our primary goal with the art placements in the outdoor courtyard was to enhance the area with whimsical sculptures inspired by native wildlife. We hope discovering all of the artwork we placed here lifts the spirits of patients and families.

Ahead of the Herd

Matt McLeod's Ahead of the Herd joins the collection of New Mexico Arts. Placed at WESST Enterprise Center Business Incubator in Albuquerque.

“Ahead of The Herd was a preparatory painting for a studio presentation of work on paper to the Arkansas Arts Center Collectors Group. A scene of two young bulls found one morning in a winter field in North Texas. The scene reminds me of so many I have found on my travels in the Southwest United States, including Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and my home state of Arkansas… cows in a field. Pretty mundane until you pull the scene apart and reassemble the pieces. As I moved into the painting process, I focused on the story of the morning light in this scene - how the light accentuated the color of the grass and the patterns on the cow hides. Once I see an interesting visual pattern of tonal values and color temperature start to appear, as I did in this case; I then push the work to embrace and elevate the pattern. It’s about light, color, energy and emotional response at that point. My intention is to make the mundane transcend to vibrant, energetic and exciting.”

Pinedale Gateway Art

Don Rambadt and the National Sculptors' Guild are in Wyoming this week installing Pinedale's new public art gateway pieces. Rambadt's design incorporates stylized depictions of wildlife from the region welcoming visitors at each end of Pinedale on Highway 191. The West has Trout on a swoosh of water, the East has soaring Eagles.
The base of each includes the words "PINEDALE ALL THE CIVILIZATION YOU NEED" cutout from the metal. Fabricated from Stainless Steel and Cor-ten Steel with River rock bases. The A-frame steel structure of the sculptures are lit at night, fueled by an incorporated solar panel.
The project is funded through the Wyoming Office of Tourism's sign grant program and Wyoming Main Street.

Spirit by Denny Haskew dedication Erie, CO

NSG Fellow Denny Haskew and the National Sculptors' Guild installed "Spirit of the West" in on the main street of Historic Downtown Erie, Colorado .

This sculpture pulls from the roots of 1874 Erie into its contemporary context. Erie's vibrancy stems from its steadfast progressive forward motion represented by the powerful, yet graceful horse - the driving force being health and vitality.

The commissioners selected the unique charcoal patina for the horse - an homage to the town's deep roots in coal mining.

Dedicated July 2, 2015
