Jane DeDecker to commemorate Dr. Elaine Bartgis

The University of Central Oklahoma in conjunction with the City of Edmond have commissioned Jane DeDecker and the National Sculptors' Guild to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Edmond's first female police officer. Dr. Elaine Bartgis started as a student at Central State University in 1970 majoring in nursing, then switched to criminal justice. She started as a dispatcher at the Edmond Police Department while still studying at CSU. Her connections to the University and City of Edmond make Dr. Bartgis an important figure for the community to honor.

Her accolades and influences are vast, Dr. Bartgis worked for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) in the 1980's, completed her PhD in 1994, and was hired as a faculty member for criminal justice at UCO in 2004. She was instrumental in forming the School of Criminal Justice (SCJ) serving as the first Assistant Director of the SCJ and Assistant Dean in the College of Liberal Arts. Additionally, she was the creator of the Crime and Intelligence Analysis Master's Program at UCO. Dr. Bartis retired from UCO in 2013, although she remained as an adjunct post retirement. Clearly a driven person who endlessly contributed to the community.

Jane will capture this accomplished individual during her time with the Edmond police, circa 1970's. Her pose will provide a sense of determination and forward thinking, always looking to improve the criminal justice system. The sculpture will be cast in bronze and placed at the University in 2025. We've sent the final casting of "Keeping the Ball Rolling" by NSG Fellow Jane DeDecker to Edmond, Oklahoma. The joyful bronze sculpture depicting a child balancing on a ball will be placed in the city's new sculpture garden sometime in 2021.

We've shipped off "On a Roll" by Jack Hill to Edmond, Oklahoma. The playful 7ft high bronze sculpture of a banana on roller skates will be placed in the city's new sculpture garden sometime in 2021.

National Sculptors' Guild Fellow, Gary Alsum just had another bronze sculpture selected for placement in Edmond, Oklahoma. His bronze pirate "Arrgh" is now located in the Town Square neighborhood. NSG has had a successful history of placing artwork with the city of Edmond. We love how they appreciate and accentuate art in their city. If you haven't been, it's a public art feast for the eye. #PublicArt #Edmond NSG - 506

Sculpture Services of Colorado came to the NSG garden to clean Arrgh up before we loaded it up to head to Edmond, OK. We'll miss this pirate in the garden, but happy it'll be enjoyed in its permanent placement.

Edmond, Oklahoma commissioned the sculpture "ON THE EDGE" by CLAY ENOCH, NATIONAL SCULPTORS' GUILD for its new YMCA Recreation & Aquatic Center - Mitch Park YMCA
A clever composition giving a glimpse of what's happening below the waterline for a group of young swimmers. The multi-figure monumental bronze celebrates cultural diversity, featuring 5 children total; African-American, Caucasion, Hispanic, Native American and Asian-American.
