NSG Fellow Wayne Salge, Colorado

"My bronze sculptures encompass human and animal forms which I depict in my own abstracted style: a 'Salge blend' of classical and contemporary elements. I utilize lines, shapes and textures to reveal body movement, gesture or stillness. I am not concerned with precise anatomy or plausible function; instead I focus on the expression of attitude or emotion."
Wayne Salge bronze sculptor abstract figurative and wildlife paintings Loveland, Colorado fine art Wayne Salge, Bronze, Sculpture, figurative, animal, abstract, expression, whimsical, humor, funny, contemporary, historic, narrative, sports, portrait, children, dance, activity, maquette, life, size, monument, study, male, female, figure, human, public, art, garden, entry, interior, When I create, I attempt to emphasize both contemporary and classic design elements: line, space, texture and color reflected by intricate patinas. My abstracted human and animal figures are then cast in small limited editions. Bronze is the ideal medium to continue this melding of old and new with my signature style resulting in the expression of attitude or emotion.

Born, raised and educated in San Antonio, Texas, Wayne now resides in Colorado.  In his bronze sculpture, Salge moves beyond anatomically accurate rendering to capture the essence of the personality of a horse, long-horn cattle, or other wildlife.  He says of sculpting the horse, "I'm interested mainly in the overall look of the piece - seeing how far I can push the limits and still capture the horse - rather the different areas being correct. My sculpture can become abstract and people still know what they are."

He enjoys finding the balance between the literal and the figurative. "...It's just how I see it," he says of his approach. "Pure abstraction is not as challenging to me. With abstract work you can go in all directions, but that doesn't do as much for me as making something recognizable.  In a way it's more of a challenge."
